Internal Medicine
The specialty of small animal internal medicine is broad in scope and focuses on the treatment of numerous organs and body systems. Diagnosing some of these conditions can be a challenge because many pets experience a variety of symptoms which can be indicative of multiple diseases. This is why you sometimes hear internists called puzzle solvers. Their diagnostic skills and treatment acumen must be extremely acute in order to determine the precise cause of the problem.
Our internists, Dr. Melissa Riensche and Dr. Angie Mexas, work very closely with our board certified radiologists. Together, they utilize a host of diagnostic and imaging modalities to assess each patient as needed:
- Digital radiography (x-ray)
- Ultrasound
- Fluoroscopy
- Computed tomography (CT Scan)
- Ultrasound guided aspiration and biopsy
Our internists perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including:
- Hemolytic Anemia
- Thrombocytopenia
- Polyarthritis
